Vietnam's airlines on a hiring spree as tourism rebounds

VIETNAM: Airlines have already begun posting hiring announcements for many positions to expand their list of flights and destinations as the country’s aviation industry prepares for a rebound this year.

Since March 15, Vietnam has reopened its inbound and outbound tourism lanes. Airlines have already posted job notices for pilots, flight engineers, and cabin crew members, with salaries higher than pre-pandemic levels.

According to airline representatives, the hiring spree is needed to prepare for expansion as new routes to northeast and Southeast Asian nations are launching. Some carriers are looking to expand their fleet by as much as 100%.

Bui Minh Dang, deputy head of the air transportation department at the Civil Aviation Authority, said Vietnam’s aviation industry can transport up to 43 million passengers this year in the best-case scenario, or around 50% of the country's pre-pandemic figures.
