Tech and cybersecurity skills shortage persists in the region

SOUTHEAST ASIA: With the rapid internet adoption rates and an increasing need for data protection systems, the tech and cybersecurity skills shortage is a growing concern in the region.

According to The Life and Times of Cybersecurity Professionals 2021, a research report by the Information Systems Security Association and Enterprise Strategy Group, the demand for industry professionals has never been higher, especially in Malaysia and Indonesia at the moment.

The top ramifications of the skills shortage include an increased workload for the cybersecurity team (62% of the 489 cybersecurity professionals surveyed highlighted this), unfilled open job requisitions (38%), and a high burnout rate among staff (38%).

The report also showed that 95% of cybersecurity professionals believe there has been no improvement to the skills shortage over the past two years.
