Singapore now training youths in digital and green skills

SINGAPORE: Young Singaporeans are in need of technical skills in the digital and green economies, according to Minister of State for Education and Manpower Gan Siow Huang.

Speaking at the World Youth Skills Day Asia Pacific Symposium earlier this month, Gan said these types of skills would be in large demand in the future of work, The minister highlighted the potential in digital technologies, especially given the rapid pace of advancement in the sector.

"It was only about 15 years ago that smartphones started coming into prominence; it is exciting to think of what new technologies we will see another 10 to 15 years down the road," she said.

The minister also said new industries and job opportunities will emerge for youths and new skills and competencies will be required with the transition towards a greener economy.
