Shell offers eight weeks paid leave for all non-birthing parents

Energy firm Shell announced that it will implement an eight week global minimum standard for paid parental leave.

However, the length of paid parental leave will be subject to local restrictions. Some countries allow Shell to offer a longer paid leave time.

The leave applies to non-birthing parents regardless of gender, gender identity and marital status. It applies to surrogacy and adoption cases as well.

“Every parent, no matter where they live, should be able to spend time with their new child. And that is true for all families. No matter if your child was born via surrogacy or adoption, or whether you are married or not, or from the LGBT+ community, it’s an important and a special time and we want to support you.” said Ronan Cassidy, chief human resources and corporate officer for Shell.

Shell currently offers the minimum global standard of a 16 week paid maternity leave.
