PHP 1 billion in cash aid allocated for Covid-19 relief

PHILIPPINES: Around 200,000 formal sector workers in Manila and other regions are set to each receive PHP 5,000 (USD 97) in cash aid, to help relieve some of the economic impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In its third set of handouts since the pandemic began, the Philippines government is providing each displaced worker with cash aid by the end of January, said the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

DOLE Assistant Secretary Dominique Rubia-Tutay told local media that workers from the food, entertainment, and tourism industries, among other sectors, would be prioritised.
