Malaysia creates programmes to address skills mismatch

MALAYSIA: The HR Ministry has established a portfolio of reskilling and upskilling programmes to tackle critical skills mismatch issues across the economy.

HR Minister Datuk Seri M Saravanan says the programmes have been set up through the Human Resource Development Corp and Social Security Organisation.

Saravanan said there are some first-generation graduates, or people from families where they are the first to graduate, who have entered sectors that have fewer employment opportunities.

"The ministry is trying to increase awareness among parents, especially of first-generation graduates, to ensure that they choose fields where there are opportunities," The Star quoted Saravanan as saying.
