The number of HR practitioners in Singapore has grown rapidly over the last decade, with over 40,000 workers now identifying themselves as an HR professional. This compares to just 23,000 who were working in the HR field in 2010.

About nine in 10 of those roles are classed as professional, managerial, executive, or technician (professional-level roles). More than eight in 10 local HR practitioners have a diploma or degree qualification, and about seven in 10 are women.

The statistics were revealed by the Minister of Manpower Tan See Leng ,in a response to a parliamentary question regarding the professional HR community in Singapore.

He noted that setting up the Institution for HR Professionals (IHRP) in 2017 had certainly helped to spur growth in the HR industry. This was done to “professionalize and upskill HR professionals through certifications and training,” he said.
