Ho Chi Minh's workforce shortage continues into 2022

VIETNAM: Ho Chi Minh City’s Centre of Forecasting Manpower Needs and Labor Market Information has revealed that the city is continuing to struggle against a severe shortage of workers, with about 310,000 gaps, or vacant positions available at the start of 2022.

The city expects to need between 280,000 and 310,000 further workers if the pandemic situation is managed well in the New Year. But if in a difficult Covid-19 situation, the city's demand for labour is expected to reduce by about 225,000 to 280,000.

The city’s trade and service sectors have registered the highest uptick in labour demand so far in 2022. They compose at least 66% of the total demand for staff in the commerce, transportation and warehousing, accommodation, and catering industries.
