INDONESIA: Southeast Asia super-app Grab is set to shutter its GrabKitchen operations in Indonesia by December this year.
The company said the decision is part of its shift to an “asset-light” business model after bouts of inconsistent growth.
“This situation forced us to take a difficult decision, which is not to continue our GrabKitchen operations in Indonesia,” said Mayang Schreiber, Grab Indonesia’s chief communications officer.
GrabKitchen's closure has affected between 10 to 20 Grab employees. Some were offered the chance to move elsewhere in the company, while others were laid off.
Affected employees will receive compensation and fulfilment of obligations in accordance with regulations.
Earlier in the year, Grab said it had no plans to carry out mass layoffs despite difficult market conditions.
