Government appeals for Covid-19 workplace vigilance

PHILIPPINES: The national government has urged employers to avoid complacency in observing workplace safety protocols, despite the easing of Covid-19 restrictions.

Executive Director of the Occupational Safety and Health Center, Noel Binag advised all workplaces to remain vigilant, even as mandatory practices eased. "Just because we are at Alert Level 1, it doesn't mean that we can already disregard safety and health protocols," he said.

Alert Level 1 signals the improved Covid-19 situation, resulting in the relaxation of community restrictions.

The labour official cited the success of previous programs amid higher alert levels, "Based on the reports of our field offices, (the) majority followed the safety and health protocols."

He went on to say that only a few complaints were reported among those without safety officers and occupational health and safety policies.

At 100% capacity, all private companies and businesses in the National Capital Region and 38 other areas have been allowed to operate under Alert Level 1 since March 1.
