BRUNEI: The latest wave of financial assistance from the National Welfare System will be limited to three groups of private sector workers who have been affected by the Covid-19 outbreak.
Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Mohd Amin Liew Abdullah said
two of the target beneficiaries were categorised as retrenched workers on unpaid leave for more than seven days either, due to the outbreak’s impact on the company or because they have been issued a quarantine order by the Ministry of Health.
The third group consisted of freelance workers who are classified as self-employed and need financial aid as a result of the pandemic's impact on their business.
He emphasised that workers who lost their jobs in 2020 were not eligible for this assistance round.
The minister said that the special financial assistance was not only to ensure the welfare of workers in the private sector, but also to help private businesses improve their cash flow.
