Filipino workers may be banned from Saudi Arabia

PHILIPPINES: The Philippine government is considering a suspension of deployment of overseas Filipino workers to Saudi Arabia.

The possible deployment ban comes after a retired Saudi general was accused of maltreating his Filipino workers.

Director of the Department of Labour and Employment Information and Public Service in Philippines, Rally Francia, said the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) has recommended the suspension if the domestic helpers are not immediately turned over to Filipino authorities.

Francia said different government agencies were helping POLO to negotiate with former general Saudi Ayed Al Jeaid.

Al Jeaid , reportedly employs 16 OFWs, and has been accused of treating housemaids like slaves. Of those 16, Francia said only two have remained with their current employer. Five had previously agreed to settle their cases against Al Jeaid in exchange for their repatriation.
