Expatriate packages rose by 4% last year: new research

SINGAPORE: Expatriate salary and benefits packages in the Lion City climbed by 4% in local currency terms over the course of last year.

This is according to the latest MyExpatriate Market Pay Survey published annually by ECA International.

Despite the increase, Singapore fell five places, to 22nd, in the global rankings of locations with the highest expatriate packages.

Japan, India and China currently offer the highest expatriate packages in the Asia-Pacific region.

Japan-based expats also saw their salaries rise by 4% last year, but it is no longer the most expensive location worldwide. It has been overtaken by the UK, where the overall value of an expatriate package grew by more than 9%.

Companies have to take into account the cash salary, tax, and benefits such as accommodation, international schools, or cars, when considering the cost of an expatriate package, ECA International advises.
