No more subsidies for employers taking on foreign workers

Updated: Nov 17, 2021

MALAYSIA: The government has affirmed that companies that hire foreign workers must cover the total expenses involved.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin reiterated, “The costs include levy payment and the cost of quarantine on arrival at the country’s entry points.”

Modelling the United Arab Emirates system, Human Resource Minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan is also studying the foreign worker salary payment system to improve foreign workers management.

“The systematic salary payment system implemented by the UAE government is seen as an effective process that protects the interests of foreign workers,” he noted.

Through Kuala Lumpur, Sabah, and Sarawak airports, foreign workers can come into Malaysia and must undergo a mandatory quarantine at government-accredited quarantine centres.
