10 million workers affected by Coronavirus receive cash aid

VIETNAM: Social Security disbursed over VND25 trillion (USD1.09 billion) in cash aid from the government’s unemployment insurance fund to more than 10 million workers affected by COVID-19.

Aside from the cash assistance, a signed decision of the Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Truong Thi Ngoc Anh allocates VND15.5 billion (USD485,000) for COVID-19 prevention and control.

Those who are entitled to the assistance are employers that have fully paid social insurance premiums or are suspending contributions to retirement and survivor benefit funds as of January 2021, as well as employers with a reduction of at least 10% of the employees enrolled in social insurance compared to that in January 2021. They will also receive financial support for their employees’ training and improvement of vocational skills.

Workers whose labour contracts were suspended, on leave without pay due to COVID-19 treatment and quarantine, or whose factories are in partial or full shutdowns, are also entitled to the cash aid.
